At SandYard, our mission is to build a volleyball community defined by positivity, leadership, and a relentless commitment to growth. We are not simply assembling teams—we are creating an environment where athletes with heart, hustle, and coachability can thrive.
We believe that skill can be developed, but attitude, effort, and team-first energy are what truly set great athletes apart. That’s why SandYard focuses on recruiting players in real competitive environments, watching how they move, communicate, and support their teammates. We look for athletes who want to work hard, elevate one another, and push toward their fullest potential.
Our program is built on:
• Athleticism
• Coachability
• Positive attitudes
• Strong teamwork
• Hustle and a willingness to learn
We don’t expect perfection—developing players is our job. Our goal is to take driven athletes and give them the tools, training, and support to reach the next level.
SandYard is committed to creating a positive, empowering atmosphere where every athlete learns to slay—on and off the court.
If you’re interested in joining the SandYard family, we welcome you to share your tournament schedule, indoor club, jersey number, and position so we can see you compete and get to know you in action.
At SandYard Beach Academy, our vision goes beyond competition — we are committed to growing the game of Beach Volleyball from the ground up. Our programs are thoughtfully designed to engage athletes of all ages and skill levels, from energetic 5-year-olds taking their first steps in the sand to seasoned Masters players rediscovering their passion. By creating accessible, age-appropriate pathways for learning, training, and play, we aim to inspire a lifelong love for the sport and build a strong, supportive beach volleyball community throughout Pennsylvania.
SandYard Volleyball was born in 2021 during one of the most uncertain times in sports. As indoor volleyball programs paused during the COVID era due to concerns about spreading the virus, players everywhere were searching for a way to keep competing, training, and simply enjoying the game they loved. Instead of waiting for the world to reopen, Coach Mel took her indoor players outside and onto the sand.
For Coach Mel, beach volleyball was more than just an alternative. It was a return to where her love for the game truly began. Growing up playing beach volleyball on the beaches of Chicago during the 1990s, she always secretly preferred the freedom, creativity, and athleticism of beach volleyball over the indoor game. The sand demanded complete players, athletes who could think, adapt, communicate, and compete using their own unique strengths.
That philosophy became the foundation of SandYard Volleyball.
At SandYard, there is no single mold for success. Every player is trained to discover their individual strengths and learn how to apply them to their own style of play. Some players dominate with hustle and defense. Others lead with power, strategy, vision, or creativity. SandYard believes the best athletes are the ones who learn how to become the strongest version of themselves, not a copy of someone else.
What started as a solution during a difficult season quickly grew into something much bigger, a community built around sunshine, competition, growth, and joy for the game. Because at SandYard, beach volleyball is more than training. It is freedom, energy, teamwork, and the simple belief that it is always a beautiful day when you get to play in the sand under the sun.
